Everyone visiting the Household Recycling Centres are required to pre-book their visit.
This is to minimise queues and congestion on site and to help keep everybody safe.
Please note: as of 1st April 2023 Gloucestershire HRC's ceased collecting vehicle tyres for disposal. Please make arrangements for suitable disposal with an authorised tyre fitter, or tyre disposal company. Bicycle tyres continue to be accepted.
Only a resident’s own household waste can be accepted at a Household Recycling Centre, the deposit of commercial and/or industrial waste is a criminal offence.
All visits must be booked in advance using the online booking function.
Booking your visit in advance helps to minimise queues and congestion, improving site safety and your recycling experience.
Our customer satisfaction surveys show that most of our customers preferred to book in advance. Many customers are enjoying the shorter queues and less congested sites that booking has offered.

There are a limited number of appointments available each day, so please only book what you need. We reserve the right to restrict access if we believe your waste may be from a business or where, in our reasonable view, your use of the HRC sites is excessive.
With more than 10,000 bookings a week across the five Gloucestershire recycling centres, we do not have the capacity to routinely accept telephone bookings. However, we accept that there are a small number of residents without internet access from whom we will accept phone bookings on 01452 596 626 (available weekdays 9.00 am to 5.00pm). Please only use this telephone service if you genuinely cannot book online or if a friend or relative is unable to book online on your behalf.
When you access the booking form you will be asked to provide:
• name
• email address
• postcode
• vehicle make and model
• vehicle registration
• Types of waste you are bringing to site
All personal information is kept confidential and will be used to administer
and manage the online booking scheme, contact you should there be an unplanned site closure and to help prevent you from having a wasted journey, to monitor for potential illegal Commercial Waste depositing, and to support any future policy change recommendations.
You will receive an email booking reference - you will need to bring this with you to enter the site, either printed or on your phone.
Use the Car Booking Amendment Form or the Van, large trailer and pick ups amendment form to amend your vehicle registration- you will need your booking reference number and the registration number of the vehicle booked.
To cancel or re-schedule a booking and/or amend the vehicle registration number, visit the Car Booking Amendment Form or the Van, large trailer and pick ups amendment form - as long as you have both the booking reference number and the registration number of the vehicle booked.
Yes, the online van booking system remains unchanged. Remember that our Household Recycling Centres are for your own household waste only. It is an offence to dispose of commercial or trade waste at our HRCs. To check if your vehicle falls under this vehicle type, check here.
Please only bring waste that cannot be disposed of through your normal kerbside collections or for which no other disposal options are available. For up to date information on what we accept, visit our what waste can be accepted and excluded page.
If you require help with lifting your waste, please advise the member of staff greeting you at the entrance and you will be assisted.
Swindon Road Recycling Centre is operated by Cheltenham Borough Council and available for Cheltenham residents only. This sites does not accept certain waste and recycling materials that Gloucestershire County Council Household Recycling Centres accept. Please visit www.cheltenham.gov.uk
No. HRCs are not licensed to accept fly-tipped waste. Waste fly-tipped on private land will need to be disposed of at a private licenced waste site.
