Food waste

Where is it taken?

Andigestion, Bishops Cleeve.

What happens to it?

The food waste collected at the kerbside is sent to Andigestion in Cheltenham where it is sent through an anaerobic digestion facility where it is composted inside silos without oxygen present.

The waste is broken down by bacteria to produce a liquid commercial fertiliser as well as renewable biomethane gas that is sent to the national grid to power homes in the area as well as providing power to run the site itself.

Find out more about the anaerobic digestion process here.
