Not for Profit organisation takes over recycling centres

The not for profit organisation is a council owned company, currently including Cheltenham Borough Council, Cotswold District Council, Forest of Dean District Council, Tewkesbury Borough Council, West Oxfordshire District Council and Stroud District Council. Gloucestershire County Council will also become a shareholder in Ubico Ltd. Ubico is on target to deliver savings of more than £5 million in the first five years of operating, having already saved over £3.9 million in the first three years. All income from recycling and other sales through the HRCs will be kept by the county council, and any underspend at year end will also be returned. As a shareholder, Gloucestershire County Council will have influence on future business plans and the overall direction of the company. Cllr Ray Theodoulou, deputy leader of the county council, said: "Our HRCs play a really important part in helping our county to reduce, reuse and recycle as much of our household waste as possible. In 2015/2016, landfill cost local residents' almost £13million and, in time, this new contract with Ubico will help us further towards our aim of zero waste to landfill."
